Dams are plays most important role in the world. There are some of most popular dams in green district Koraput for power generation and irrigation projects. This is also plays the importance role in tourism field and drinking water supply programsl of green district Koraput. There are two most important dams in green district Koraput that are 

1. Kolab dam 

2. Jallput dam

1. Kolab dam

  

Kolab dam is a Straight, Masonry, Gravity types of dam. The idea of making a dam kolab river was came during the British ruling time but it construction was began in 1976 by the government of Odisha . This dam was inaugurated in 1993. This dam is impounds on kolab River near the kolab Villege, that’s why it’s official name is called as upper kolab dam. There is a beautiful batanical garden near the kolab dam where more than 200 flower is planted and also picnic places are available for weekend picnic.

There we can see best ponaroma view of kollan dam from those places. There is a bregde infront of kollan dam like view point to see the flow of water from opened gate to bellow the bredge of kollan dam. 

Fact of kollan dam

 Kolab dam is a gravity type dam. It’s hight is 54.50m and length is 630.50m. There is 11 Ogee type spillway or gate is set up and the capacity of this spillway is 10020cumec. It is a big reservoir of Koraput and it’s capacity is 1,000,000,000m3 , catchment area is 1630km2. Here 4 francis type turnbin is setup and it’s generate 320 MW of electricity.

2. Jalaput dam (Machkund dam)

         Jalaput dam is impounds on Machkund river which is tributary of gadabori river between the boarder of Odisha and Andra Pradesh and also both the government operats it’s  mutually. This dam mainly constructed for hydroelectric power generation, irrigation and drinking water supply to the people of local areas.  This river runs  nearly 48km of north along a meandering course through the Padwa Valley. It winds westward along the edge of the Plateau and then suddenly tums at a short angle to the south-west down a steep descent popularly known as Duduma Falls.

This dam is a earth-fill type dam. Hight of this dam is 60.65m and it’s length is 419m. Here also ogee type of spill way is setup and I the capacity of each spillway is 5660cumes.

The main reservoir is in jalaput which capacity of reservoir is 971000000m3 but active capacity of this reservoir is 893000000m3.  There is 120 MW of electricity is generate by 6 turbine.  This 6 turbine is two different old type of turbine
